New Beginnings, 2020

Peacar, winter, 2020
Laci McMillian is 23, Veronika Kent is 23

Laci was glad to finally be done with university, even if it only meant that she was now in vet school doing her graduate studies. She missed Zhou and hoped that he would return to Apple Valley soon, but he was busy teaching abroad and fulfilling his obligation. When organizations pay for your tuition, they want their investment returned.

Thankfully, he was able to visit her and

they enjoyed the limited amount of time that they had together.

Speaking of investments, Laci and Veronika had planned on renting an apartment together after graduation, but after talking with her father,

Laci decided to invest some of her money and purchase a house. She paid a significant amount down, but still took out a loan. She enjoyed the large third floor suite and the city views from her private bathroom.

The new house was downtown and within walking distance to her school. Laci didn't see herself living in the urban center for long, but for this season of her life, it worked out well. Her cousins and sisters were always around. They seemed to enjoy having a place to come and chill without the oversight of parents. It wasn't as if they were getting into trouble, but sometimes the girls just wanted to be silly without having to prove that they were mature.

Laci's aunt, Fiona, also made frequent stops by the house just to check on them or drop off some food.

Laci enjoyed having the sounds of family surround her, so it was always a welcomed visit whenever her aunt, or sisters or parents or cousins stopped by.

Veronika...well, Laci wasn't sure what was in her cousin's head. Veronika seemed thrilled with having the entire second floor to herself and she turned one of the bedrooms into an art studio.

Veronika was the one who convinced her to buy an oxygen machine

because of all the latest hype about the health benefits. Maybe one day, Laci would have the chance to actually use it.

  1. Great to see Laci and Veronika out on their own, and still having family around. I also really love seeing Laci and Zhou together - hope things work out well for them!

    1. I've been waiting for ages for them to finally be on their own. Eversince they were children and BFFs. Thanks for reading and commenting.

  2. I think it was a great idea for Laci to buy a house! Perfect investment...and perhaps a place for Zhou to move into when he comes back to Apple Valley?

    1. I do think Zhou would move in with Laci when he returns to Apple Valley. Not sure if this will be their forever home since Laci has a large love of animals and an urban home isn't the best place for a large herd :) Thanks for reading and commenting.

    1. I'm jealous of the views from these homes. Her uncle, James, actually lives one door over from her as well. Those rooftop views are swoon-worthy. Makes the views of endless trees in the suburbs look a bit sad. Thanks for reading and commenting.
