Slip-Up Last, 2012

Resar, fall, 2012
Faith is 28, Olivia is 6, Vivienne is 5. Walt Jones is 29

Faith lit a cigarette and sunk deeper into the uncomfortable couch.

"What are you eating?" she asked as Olivia bounced next to her, she wrinkled her nose as she caught a whiff of her oldest daughter's smell...or was that her?

"Cookies," the little girl answered stuffing more of the cream filled circles in her mouth.

"I told you to get cereal for breakfast."

"The milk smelled funny, and when we poured it, it came out lumpy, like when I was sick and had to go poop, but it wasn't really poop, but like water and poop."

Faith groaned at her daughter's literal potty mouth. "Fine, after you finish we need to get dressed. Your grandpa is getting married today remember?"

"I remember!" Vivienne shouted coming from the room with her dress on. "I look pretty?"

"Very pretty," Walt answered coming from their room. "You two ladies might want to get dressed, we need to leave in twenty minutes."

They arrived to the courthouse barely on time. Susie was sulking in the corner but Faith ignored her. She wasn't happy about how fast their father had moved into a new relationship, but he was happy and that was enough for her. Faith had spent the last few simweeks trying to get to know Gretchen and Patrick better considering that they would soon family and Gretchen wasn't a bad woman at all. Their conversations were not boring, which is what she expected, nor did they talk about Lyndon the entire time, which was also what she expected. In fact, they mostly discussed music and how Gretchen wanted to start giving violin and piano lessons afterschool now that she was officially hired as a music teacher.

Even Patrick was interesting. He tried to befriend the girls by buying them toys from the money he earned as a security guard. Olivia barely said thank you, in fact she tossed her toy to the ground and say that toys were for babies. Vivienne did say thank you and even gave Patrick a hug. Faith wondered sometimes how much Vivienne and Olivia were different. Vivienne was a shy little girl, much like her father, with a heart of gold--which Faith couldn't explain by looking at her family tree--, and full of childish antics, while Olivia was a little spitfire, mean to just about every sim she met, yet she knew no stranger. She could get the email address from a fire hydrant.

"Is it bad that I took a prenatal pill this morning with a swig of beer?" she whispered to Susie as the group waited their turn to enter.

"What? Why are you taking prenatal pills? Are you pregnant?"

"I hope not...but we had a slip-up last week, so better safe then sorry right?"

"I guess...but I think the beer negates the benefits of the prenatal pill."

Soon it was there turn and they watched as Lyndon promised to share the rest of his life with Gretchen and she promised to make his family her family.

When they kissed, Faith couldn't help but look around and wonder if Gretchen and her son, Patrick, knew what they were getting into. It was funny that of the three siblings, she was the most normal. But that was because Susie and Harvis were part blue alien and Anthony was part something...something supernatural. She didn't understand much of it when they talked to her about it, but she understood that he had powers and their girls might have powers inherited from their parents. So even though she took her prenatal pills with beer and her daughter had a potty mouth, she wasn't casting spells on sims or reading minds or controlling the weather.

She met Gretchen's eyes at the moment and the woman smiled at her, almost as if she knew what she were thinking. Faith groaned, she hoped not. It would be just her luck to be surrounded by family members that have all sorts of powers. Her only power was to clear a room with a single fart. After the brief ceremony and a few casual pictures taken with their digital cameras, they returned to Lyndon's new home.

It was a nice sized apartment, two bedrooms and modestly furnished. There were pictures of the family on the wall, some of Patrick and Gretchen and some of her mother, Nicole. There were photos of her daughters and Susie and Anthony and even photos of Harvis's graduation.

"Are you going to help me with the food or stare at the walls?" Susie asked.

The sisters quickly set the counters with food brought from the local deli. Cheese trays to nibble on, followed by fried chicken and finally for dessert, a simple berry pie.

It was crowded in the apartment, it was never made to host so many sims, but everyone grabbed a plate and either a spot to sit, or a spot to perch their bottom, or a wall to lean on.

"Congratulations! May your marriage bring you many years of joy!"

Faith also took the girls swimming, which didn't really fit into the update, but here are photos to share of the quick trip-since the girls were cranky and wanted to go home almost as soon as they had arrived.

Lyndon, Gretchen and Patrick are living in Gavigan Gate apartments. I don't expect any children from these two, so I'm actually going to put them on massive heavy duty birth control.

The Humphrey family will be staying in the rotation while the Sweeny family has "won" entrance into the land of nonplayables. Figures that now Tobi would roll the generic "Get Married" want, but don't worry, we'll have plenty of updates on him.

  1. I actually can't believe how fast Lyndon has bounced back from Nicole's death - I'm happy that he's found love again, but it does seem a little soon to me. I wish them the best though. (although the last line of the update does ring the "famous last words" bell, if you ask me - but I could just be being negative XD)

    1. Lyndon did fall in love quickly and had the wants for marriage (and a child which I'm choosing to ignore) fairly quickly after Nicole's death, so meeting his grief counselor and falling and love wasn't a surprise. Thanks for reading and commenting.

  2. I'm also surprised Lyndon is moving on so fast but if Gretchen makes him happy, then what else can anyone say? He would have been so lonely after Nicole's death, the poor guy. :(

    1. Lyndon is a family aspiration, so right away he wanted to be remarried and meet someone new and fall in love. He hasn't been alone since sophomore year of university when he met Nicole online. Thanks for commenting and reading.

  3. Heh, I like how messed up they all are (in a good way, of course) and the wedding seems to sort of illustrate it. But I'm happy for Lyndon, even if I, too, hear the omnious sound of those famous last words. :)

    1. Families are imperfect collections of imperfect people and faith seems at peace with those imperfections. I hope those didn't jinx the couple, I can't deal with more death. Thanks for reading and commenting,

  4. Glad to see Lyndon happy, they are a cute little couple. Oh boy on Faith, she's definitely not winning any parenting awards, the green stink is definitely gross!

    1. I doubt Faith would ever win a conventional parenting award, at least not with Olivia. Thanks for commenting and reading.

  5. I can totally relate to families with lots of weirdness going on lol. I too am a bit wary about his moving on so fast, but I'm sure that's just all the counseling classes I have rattling around in my brain right now! I wish them all the best :)

  6. I see Lyndon is not one for patience. Well here's hoping that everything works out for the best or doesn't turn into too big of a disaster.

  8. It does seem soon for Lyndon to be moving on, but I think he knows better than most how short life can be! Good for him for trying to make himself happy!
