White Houses, 2016

Patar, Summer, 2016
Soundtrack: White Houses by Vanessa Carlton
Lyrics from White Houses by Vanessa Carlton

Crashed on the floor when I moved in
This little bungalow with some strange new friends
Stay up too late, and I'm too thin
We promise each other it's 'til the end

Now we're spinning empty bottles
It's the five of us
With pretty eyed boys girls die to trust
I can't resist the day
No, I can't resist the day

Jenny screams out and it's no pose
'Cause when she dances she goes and goes

Beer through the nose on an inside joke

And I'm so excited, I haven't spoken

And she's so pretty, and she's so sure
Maybe I'm more clever than a girl like her
Summer's all in bloom
Summer is ending soon

It's alright and it's nice not to be so alone
But I hold on to your secrets in white houses

Maybe I'm a little bit over my head

I come undone at the things he said

And he's so funny in his bright red shirt

We were all in love and we all got hurt

I sneak into his car's cracked leather seat

The smell of gasoline in the summer heat

Boy, we're going way too fast

It's all too sweet to last

It's alright

And I put myself in his hands
But I hold on to your secrets in white houses

Love, or something ignites in my veins
And I pray it never fades in white houses

My first time, hard to explain
Rush of blood, oh, and a little bit of pain

On a cloudy day, it's more common than you think

He's my first

mistake

Maybe you were all faster than me
We gave each other up so easily
These silly little wounds will never mend
I feel so far from where I've been

So I go, and I will not be back here again
I'm gone as the day is fading on white houses
I lied, wrote my injuries all in the dust
I
n my heart is the five of us
In white houses

And you, maybe you'll remember me
What I gave is yours to keep
In white houses

This song was perfect for describing Lara's summer. So I decided to let the music and lyrics speak for themselves.

Here's a video version just for fun :)

  1. I'm not going to lie: I cried watching that video. I'm getting a pretty good picture of what Lara's experience was like from that, and I don't think it turned out quite the way she expected. But then few things in life are the way we envision them, I guess Lara had to learn that the hard way.

    1. I'm glad you liked the video, I love doing little videos, but don't always have the time or inspiration for them. Lara got a bit more than she bargained for, but then again it is expected of such a naive teen. Thanks for reading and commenting.

  3. Who are the other teens besides Lara? I've lost track of who's who. Is one of the girls one of the Kent twins?

    1. The other teens are teens she met in Studiotown during her internship, so they're new friends. Thanks for reading and commenting

  4. What a nifty way to tell about that experience! I've been lurking for a few weeks, reading through all your neighborhood posts from 2012 on. While I don't have the complete history of your neighborhood, I do know the families now, and it's been wonderful! :) I've meant to read your blog for so long and I'm happy that I was able to finally read enough to have a good idea of what is going on!

  5. Finally caught up. As soon as I saw that the soundtrack was White Houses, I knew how it was going to happen, but I queued it up on my iPod anyway and started to listen. So it looks like she's gotten her first and last taste of the industry. But I can hope that she's learned from the experience.

    1. Lara has learned quite a lesson about life outside of her tiny hood and she's no longer as naive as she once was, she still has the desire to go into industry as her internship was ok, it was just the after internship hours that wasn't that fun for her. Congrats on catching up, you did quite a lot of reading the last few days! Thanks for reading and commenting.

  6. Oh Lara, so young and naive, and just in way over her head. That song was perfect for her experience, definitely a learned lesson here. Man, she really lived it up after hours. She's super adorable, loved the photos, and her insecurities showing, and how you showed her letting go of herself and just being in the moment. She's adorable at the bus stop too. Lots of great emotional photos in this one.

    1. Maisie, you're right, Lara has some insecurities and she's a bit naive but she did live it up and let herself go. I think she learned a life lesson, but I don't think she will let the lesson make her bitter or resentful. Thanks for reading and commenting.
